Meghan Markle mocked by fans as they accuse her over comment about Princess Diana

Meghan Markle was mocked by royal fans after her latest photoshoot poses appeared to strike a resemblance to some of her late mother-in-law, Princess Diana’s, most iconic photos. The Duchess of Sussex gave a new interview to Harper’s Bazaar and did a photoshoot with them for the December 2025/January 2026 issue.

Meghan was seen in various outfits, from a red dress to a silk one, and a black and black and white ensemble. But some fans online found the photos were eerily similar to snaps of Diana. In one of the pictures, Meghan is seen sitting barefoot on the floor, crossing her legs while holding her fingers and looking at the camera.

A very similar photo was taken by celebrity photographer Patrick Demarchelier in 1991, when he worked with the late Princess of Wales for Vogue’s December issue of that year. Other shots from the photoshoot, including her close-up portrait, appear to bear similarities, according to fans. Another shot that sparked interest was Meghan’s red ensemble by Balenciaga, which fans said is similar to Princess Diana’s other photoshoot for Vogue, published in 1997 to mark her death.

Diana wore a striking red gown by Valentino and was photographed by Mr Demarchelier again in 1994, however, the photos were used in 1997 for the tribute issue. Another one of Meghan’s outfits for the Harper’s Bazaar shoot was a silk champagne gown, which, according to fans, closely resembled one Diana wore for her iconic portraits shot by David Bailey. One user wrote on X: “I hypothesise this is exactly what she wanted: being linked to Harry’s late mother! I bet she sits for hours going through her photographs!”

Another one joked: “Because she will never get the Vogue Cover [like Diana] she will have all the remaining magazines then?” A third one said: “She doesn’t hold a candle to Diana & never will!” A fourth person commented: “Wow scary stuff.” Meanwhile, a fifth said: “How long before she copies the hairstyle? We all know she reads this so come on Rachel, do it doooo eeeeet.”

A sixth one said: “I’m so grossed out by this blatant, constant cosplay.”

In what is one of her most personal interviews yet, the Duchess of Sussex said that she was drawn to her husband, the Duke of Sussex’s, “childlike wonder and playfulness” and that she appreciates spending more time with her children because she can work from home.
