Meghan Markle made her “first mistake” as a working member of the Royal Family back in 2019, claims journalist Liz Jones. The Duchess, 42, officially joined the Royal Family after marrying the King’s youngest son, Prince Harry in 2018. Taking to her column for dailymail.co.uk, Ms Jones openly admits who openly admits that she was a fan of the former actress at the time of her royal wedding – which took place exactly six years ago today.

Stating that her time as a fan had “cooled” when Meghan visited sex workers in Bristol at the start of 2019 – and mostly notably wrote messages on bananas for them. Mr Jones wrote: “It was Bananagate, when Meghan, still a working Royal, visited sex workers in Bristol, scrawling positive mantras on fruit.” Recalling the visit, she added: “‘Was she signing her autograph?’ I wrote. ‘Would she get ink on the £1,500 Oscar de la Renta? No, Meghan. These women are not “loved”, they are not “special”.

She continued: “I’d have more admiration if, when she’s finished doing up that “cottage” in Windsor… she were to open its doors as a refuge instead. “That would show these women they are loved. That would prove they’re special.’ Ouch!” Despite being a previous fan of Meghan, Ms Jones admitted that the former working royal can be “tone deaf” at times – including during their recent visit to Nigeria. During their three-day visit, Meghan was seen sporting a “Cartier watch and backless and almost frontless dresses”.

To conclude, Ms Jones said that welcoming Meghan and Harry back into the fold could be the “best anniversary gift” that King Charles could give his youngest son and daughter-in-law. Prince Harry has also made several mistakes, his mostly occurring after stepping down as a working royal at the start of 2020. The decision to take part in the interview with Oprah Winfey, alongside a heavily-pregnant Meghan, to speak on their troubled time as royals could evidently be classed as one.

This was the first time that the couple had officially spoken out, with the pair making several claims against the Royal Family. Meghan claimed that a member of the family had even shared concerns over the colour of their then-unborn son’s skin.

The pair now, after stepping down as working royals in 2020, live in the US with their two children – Archie, five, and Lilibet, two.
