The four royals feeling the ‘pressure’ during King Charles and Kate’s cancer recovery
Peter Phillips has revealed four royals who are feeling the “pressure” as they undertake the bulk of duties while two key players are unwell. Peter Phillips has shared which four royals are feeling the “pressure” as King Charles continues his recovery with cancer. As reported by HELLO!, the King’s nephew has opened up about the royals all support one another – especially in a time such as the two major health crises.
Peter, 46, has said that Princess Anne, the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh and Queen Camilla are all feeling pressure to be “out and about” and conducting royal engagements as of late. The King has postponed many of his public-facing royal duties due to his cancer diagnosis in February, whilst the Princess of Wales recently revealed that she is undergoing preventative chemotherapy on March 22. Speaking in a rare televised interview for Sky News Australia, Peter – who is Princess Anne’s only son – made the revelation about how the royals are coping.
He said: “Everyone has their own different role to play. There’s a lot of pressure on the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh, my mother and the Queen to take on a lot more of the responsibilities… that adds its own pressures.” Peter added: “There is definitely a short-term pressure on certain members of the family to be able to continue to be out and about and to be seen and to support organisations and conduct official engagements that need to be done.”
Speaking of his uncle, Peter also shared the King’s frustrations about his recovery. The father-of-two added that the King is “frustrated” that his recovery is taking longer than he “would want it to”. Peter, who is currently in Australia visiting patron of charity ISPS Handa, said: “I think ultimately he’s hugely frustrated. He’s frustrated that he can’t get on and do everything that he wants to be able to do. “But he is very pragmatic, he understands that there’s a period of time that he really needs to focus on himself.”
Continuing, Peter said: “But at the same time he is always pushing his staff and everybody – his doctors and nurses – to be able to say ‘actually can I do this, can I do that?'” The King’s cancer diagnosis shocked the world back in February, with Buckingham Palace sharing the news via statement. The statement read: “During the King’s recent hospital procedure for benign prostate enlargement, a separate issue of concern was noted. Subsequent diagnostic tests have identified a form of cancer…”
The Princess of Wales also shared her own cancer diagnosis via a video message on March 22. During the emotional address, she said: “…this of course came as a huge shock, and William and I have been doing everything we can to process and manage this privately for the sake of our young family.” Following Kate’s diagnosis reveal, the King paid tribute to his “beloved” daughter-in-law, stating that he is “so proud of Catherine for her courage in speaking as she did”.
