KATE MIDDLETON and Prince William’s lavish new home is “hardly the norm for regular folk”, a royal expert has claimed. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are reportedly set to move to Adelaide Cottage in Windsor with their three children. Princess Eugenie was also known to have previously had her eyes on the property.
However, reports suggest William and Kate are hoping to move to Windsor to be closer to the Queen and the Middleton family who live in Bucklebury, Berkshire. The couple mainly resides at Kensington Palace in London. They were also gifted Anmer Hall after they tied the knot in 2011 and Tam-Na-Ghar on the Queen’s Balmoral Estate.
But a potential move to the Royal County has led one expert to label the Cambridges’ move as “hardly the norm for regular folk”. Omid Scobie, who co-authored Finding Freedom in 2020, penned a piece for Yahoo which discussed the Cambridges’ plans. Mr Scobie wrote: “It’s a decision that has raised a few eyebrows, particularly at a time when the country is dealing with a major cost of living crisis.
“Picking up a third home, especially when one of them costs the public so much to renovate, is hardly the norm for regular folk.” He went on to suggest the Cambridges would foot much of the bill. Mr Scobie claimed: “Still, Adelaide Cottage comes at no expense to anyone but the couple, I’m told. “Rather than buy, the couple have chosen to privately rent. “Any desired cosmetic work or refurbishments will be paid from their own pockets.
“It remains to be seen how the Duke and Duchess will travel to and from London—their love for helicopter trips, which the British press prefer to turn a blind eye to, are not just an unfair cost to the public but also go completely against William’s environmental concerns.”
However, Mr Scobie’s comments were received poorly by the Daily Mail’s diary editor Richard Eden. Mr Eden said on Twitter: “I see Omid Scobie is desperately trying to whip up anger against the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge… again.”
