The Princess of Wales, who has been largely out of the spotlight this year due to her ongoing cancer treatment, has been patron of the All England Club since 2016. Ms Jevans told the publication: “We’re hopeful that the Princess of Wales will be able to present the trophies as the Club’s patron, but her health and recovery is the priority.”

Also speaking of Kate’s condition, royal commentator Emily Andrews recently wrote for Grazia, adding: “Her treatment is ongoing, and will be for the next few months, but I understand she would like to visit the Wimbledon tennis tournament – she is a patron – if she feels up to it.” Further commenting, Ms Jevans said: “We don’t know what we don’t know. All we’ve said is that we’ll work with her and give her as much flexibility as possible.

“I don’t know who would present the trophies as an alternative – that’s something to consider nearer the time if necessary. “We’re staying flexible. When we hear we’ll then think about what’s the right thing to do.” Since Prince George – who late became King George V – became the club’s first President in 1907, 10 royals have presented the Wimbledon trophies.

The Princess of Wales took over the role of patron from the late Queen Elizabeth II. The late monarch, who died in 2022, had served as patron from 1952 to 2016 and, like Kate, presented the trophies on several occasions. Princess Kate made her first public appearance this year earlier this month at the annual Trooping the Colour. The 42-year-old delighted fans by appearing on the Buckingham Palace alongside other senior royals, such as the King, Queen, Prince William and their three children.

Although she made an appearance in London, the next time she will appear publicly remains unknown. In a statement released on June 14, Kate confirmed her appearance the following day at this year’s Trooping the Colour. The statement also gave a personal update on her health.

Kate, who revealed her cancer diagnosis back in March, wrote: “…I am making good progress, but as anyone going through chemotherapy will know, there are good days and bad days. “On those bad days you feel weak, tired and you have to give in to your body resting. But on the good days, when you feel stronger, you want to make the most of feeling well…”
