The Prince and Princess of Wales are said to facing a “big decision” ahead of their youngest son’s sixth birthday next month. Prince Louis, who was born in 2018, is set to celebrate his sixth birthday on April 23. With the couple recently caught up in a ‘photoshop row’, they have reportedly made no “firm decision” on who will take the new image. Princess Kate – a keen photographer – is known for being the one behind the sweet releases of her three children but the couple are said to be unsure she will capture the latest one of Louis. Earlier this month, the couple caused a frenzy after it emerged that a photograph released for Mother’s Day has been manipulated.

The image – which is said to have been taken in Windsor earlier this month – showed Kate surrounded by her three children, Prince George, 10, Princess Charlotte, eight, and Louis. Just 24 hours after the release, Kate publicly took the blame for the numerous edits made to the image. Released on their social media platforms, Kate’s statement read: “Like many amateur photographers, I do occasionally experiment with editing…” An aide has now told the Sunday Times: “They appreciate the public’s love and affection for their children and know there is a public appetite to see them on their birthdays.”

A source close to Kate also noted that they hope the next photographer will be met with less backlash, adding that all she had hoped to do was “bring a bit of joy” and to release an ongoing image to thank the public for their continued support during her ongoing health battle. The Princess of Wales has been out of public view since Christmas Day and underwent planned abdominal surgery on January 16. Kensington Palace then released a statement on January 17, noting that her surgery had been a success and that the mother-of-three would not be away from public duties until “after Easter”.

A source close to both William and Kate said that they will disclose more information about her recovery in due course. The source was quoted in The Sunday Times, saying: “They will want to be clear and more open, but they’ll do that when they feel ready. “I would expect that to be her instinct and it will be her call. They’re not going to be rushed.”

According to an article by the MailOnline, Kate is not expected to return to duties until at least April 17 – once all three children have returned to school after Easter. It is also understood that Prince William will take some time away during the school break.
