Princess Anne was the epitome of elegance earlier this week when she attended a dedication service for Antarctic explorer Sir Ernest Shackleton, however, she sported quite a special accessory with a hidden meaning, according to experts. Princess Anne looked stunning earlier this week when she unveiled a memorial stone to Antarctic explorer Sir Ernest Shackleton during a dedication service at Westminster Abbey on the 150th anniversary of his birth.
The Princess Royal was dressed in a teal coat, black gloves, black boots and a black bag. But it was her special and “modest” brooch that caught the experts’ attention. Anne wore a heart-shaped brooch which featured a turquoise gemstone and had a secret meaning behind it. Jewellery experts claimed the beautiful piece is very significant as it highlights a “mindset embracing all humanity” which resonates with the royal’s many encounters with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
They added that its colour is associated with rejuvenating the spirit, revitalising energy levels, and evoking positive thoughts. Even though unknown, its links to Ireland are “notable” and it’s estimated to be worth £500. Zack Stone, of Steven Stone, said: “Crafted in the shape of a love heart, the brooch that adorned Princess Anne’s coat at Westminster Abbey appears to be made of silver and showcases a solitary turquoise gemstone.
“A blend of blue and green hues, turquoise embodies an inspiring colour associated with rejuvenating the spirit, revitalising energy levels, and evoking positive thoughts. “While universally recognised as a symbol of love, the heart shape holds a deeper significance beyond romance. “It symbolises a mindset embracing all humanity, resonating with the Princess Royal’s encounters with individuals from diverse backgrounds throughout her royal tenure.
“Although the brooch remains unidentified, its probable Irish connection is notable. Not only was Ernest Shackleton born in Ireland, but Princess Anne wore the brooch during her visit to the Alexandra Dock at Belfast Harbour in April 2023.
“An incredibly modest piece, the brooch is unlikely to carry a high value. I’d estimate it to be worth around £500.” Shackleton, who led three British expeditions to the Antarctic, had helped create a “new excitement about science” and a “deeper reverence for the world in which we live”, according to the Very Reverend Hoyle, who dedicated the memorial.
