Prince Harry discusses ‘close bond’ with Prince William in resurfaced birthday video
Prince Harry once admitted that Prince William was the one person that he could “talk about anything” to – hinting at the close bond that the two brothers shared.
In a resurfaced video from 2005, Prince Harry discussed his “close bond” with Prince William. The video, which commemorated his 21st birthday, Harry was asked if his elder brother was his “ally”, with the now-38-year-old answering, “oh absolutely”. The pair have since been drifting apart over the past few years, largely due to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s decision to step down from the Royal Family and speak publicly about their time behind Palace walls.
In the unearthed video, Harry also said: “Each year we get closer.” The Duke of Sussex even jokingly added that he and Wiliam often enjoy a hug. He added: “We’ve even resorted to hugging each other now after not seeing each other for long periods of time. And yes, he does ring me when I’m away, and vice versa.” In the interview, Harry was also asked whether he takes advice from his elder brother, prompting him to give a surprising answer. Harry said: “I think as the years go on, it’s sort of worryingly, it’s changed to me giving him advice.
“Everyone will say, ‘Oh whatever’. But unfortunately, it has turned to that.” Harry also stated how good he is at giving advice, adding: “Both privately and publicly we talk to each other about everything. If he has problems that he wants to talk about, then he comes to me. And apparently I give him quite good advice.” Reflecting on their shared loss, Harry said that the death of their mother in 1997, adding that “it’s amazing how close” they have become.
He added: “He is the one person on this Earth who I can actually, really, we can talk about anything. “We understand each other, we give each other support, and everything’s fine.” In his memoir ‘Spare’, which was released back in January, Harry claimed that the two brothers has been involved in a physical confrontation in 2019. He claimed that William had “knocked him” to the floor, resulting in physical injury. However, Harry added that his elder brother did later return “looking regretful” and offered him an apology.
The pair have reportedly not spoken since the release of the book, with their relationship having broken down considerably since Harry’s move to the US.
