Meghan first publicly shared that she felt silenced when asked if she had been “silent, or were you silenced” by the TV megastar – Meghan claimed it to be “the latter”. This interview was largely considered the first time Meghan spoke openly about feeling voiceless in her Royal role. One author however asserts that the Duchess expressed unhappiness with her inability to voice her opinions much earlier.

According to Sarah Sands, a columnist for the Mail on Sunday writing in 2020, Meghan reportedly asked: “Don’t I have a voice?”, at an event also attended by Prince Harry, Prince William, and Kate Middleton. The incident is said to have occurred during a broadcast featuring the four royals, then referred to as the “Fab Four”. According to Ms Sands, Meghan posed the question softly after the microphone passed from William to Kate, then Harry skipped Meghan. Those within earshot are said to have heard her remark.

Ms Sands claimed: “Meghan’s ‘ordeal’ in Britain was, to her mind, the subjugation of her voice. A colleague who was at a broadcast by the Royal Family’s short-lived Fab Four how poignant it is to recall the two couples looking so happy together remembers the microphone moving down the line: William…Kate…Harry… Meghan, at the end of the line, was disinclined to wait. ‘Don’t I have a voice? ‘ she asked, icily.”

King Charles warned against Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's 'low blows' against royals

Speaking on Meghan and Harry’s Netflix deal, Ms Sands wrote: “At last, she can be heard, loud and clear. It’s obvious that she feels delighted to be home again.” The couple made a big $150m deal in 2020 to make documentaries and shows for Netflix. Their documentary about their love story and leaving Royal life became very popular on Netflix.

But Meghan and Harry, who now live in California, didn’t tell the late Queen about their Netflix plans. A Royal source told The Sun that the Queen found out from her helpers. The source said: “Harry did not inform the Queen about the Netflix deal.” The source also claimed that the Queen, knowing Harry well, would understand that they couldn’t be stopped from making their plans.
