King Charles’s four-word cancer update as he steps out for first time since diagnosis- Is he getting Better?
King Charles was asked about how his treatment was going during his first official engagement – and he responded with a short but reassuring message. King Charles has sought to reassure concerned crowds over his heath as he made his first public comeback since receiving a cancer diagnosis. When being asked how his treatment was going, he responded: “I’m alright. Thank you.”
The monarch was joined by Queen Camilla as the pair visted the Macmillan Cancer Centre at the University College Hospital in London. He looked overjoyed to be back at work following a period of two months where he has refrained from carrying out public duties. His Majesty was given the green-light by doctors to resume work despite still bearing the disease. And today he was seen holding hands and smiling at patients on the chemotherapy ward.
The King and Queen met medical specialists and patients during the visit in a bid to further raise awareness of the importance of an early diagnosis. The King has also been named as Cancer Research UK’s new patron today. King Charles revealed his diagnosis back in February, and has since been undergoing treatment for his undisclosed form of cancer.
As well as taking their time to meet patients at the centre, the King and Queen Camilla met clinicians and heard more about their use of innovative technology at UCLH; including CT scanners which are being used to help with the early detection of cancer. Taking to X, fans have also been spreading their delight at how “encouraging” it is to see the King out on his first engagement since his diagnosis reveal in February. One user wrote: “This is great news! It’s always encouraging to see someone overcoming a health challenge and returning to their responsibilities.
“King Charles must be a strong and resilient leader. Wishing him all the best in his continued recovery.” Fans were also delighted to see the King raising awareness of cancer and of his role as patron of Cancer Research UK. Another X user wrote: “So good to see #KingCharles raising awareness about the importance of early cancer diagnosis.” Whereas another exclaimed: “How excellent that he’s their new Patron”. Although the King is determined to raise awareness, the type of cancer he has has not been made public.
During today’s visit, the King sympathised with one patient as she received her chemotherapy with many others in a day unit. Speaking to the patient, the King revealed that he is due to resume his own treatment later this afternoon. He said: “I’ve got to have my treatment this afternoon as well.”
