Prince William has informed his father King Charles that he will have to pay a fee and vacate his cherished Welsh holiday house, according to The Mail on Sunday. The new Prince of Wales reportedly informed his father that he intends to rent out the charming cottage that King Charles purchased for £1.2million in 2007 and meticulously refurbished. As a result, the King is said to be “miffed” with his eldest son’s decision.

Llwynywermod, a property near the Bannau Brycheiniog National Park, was purchased through the Duchy of Cornwall, which William assumed control of after the late Queen died last year. Each summer, King Charles stays at Llwynywermod for a week or two, but William has not extended his father’s lease. To the “disappointment” of the King, it will be rentable as a holiday property after September according to an insider. Therefore, Charles will have to remove his possessions.

The 192 acres of Welsh farmland are home to a three-bedroom house with an adjoining barn that was rebuilt using traditional methods. After September, Llwynywermod will be promoted to tourists. The Duchy’s three adjoining homes are already rented out. The cost of the three-bedroom North Range cottage is £2,400 per week. Craig Hamilton, an architect, had helped Charles repair Llwynywermod. Queen Camilla’s sister, Annabel Elliot, designed the interiors in a refined and rustic manner. The cottage had a thorough refurbishment that required a lot of time and effort from the King, Queen, and Mrs Elliot.

Craig Hamilton created a massive new east window for the renovated barn, which is currently used as a dining area for up to 16 people. Even the floor displays attention to detail with specially created carpets that are based on a Welsh blanket design from the 18th century. A wood-chip boiler supplies heating and hot water to the entire estate in accordance with the King’s wishes that the structure be environmentally friendly. Rainwater is also stored outside.

The six maple trees that lined the aisle at Kate and William’s 2011 wedding at Westminster Abbey were planted in the grounds of Llwynywermod. The King will continue paying for the property’s maintenance, including the cost of hiring two specialists to maintain the grounds’ well-tended plants and shrubs due to his fondness for the location.

A royal source told The Mail on Sunday: “The King was quite miffed but that was the deal. It means he can continue to stay there but he will pay rent to the Duchy and the rest of the time it will be rented out. “The King has agreed to pay for the topiary upkeep as he doesn’t want to see all the good work in the grounds go to waste.”
