Princess Kate and King Charles will need each other’s support more than ever now as they face the toughest challenge of their lives. King Charles has always enjoyed a good relationship with his daughter-in-law, Princess Kate, but now they will be relying on each other more than ever.
Kate has been a part of Charles’s life for many years, as she started dating Prince William when they were students at the University of St Andrews together.
She has also given him three grandchildren – Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis. Princess Kate and King Charles will be thankful to have someone in the family who understands what they are going through as they battle cancer together.
The announcement about the King’s diagnosis was made in early February, mere days after he had been discharged from hospital after an operation for a benign enlarged prostate. Kate too underwent abdominal surgery on January 16, with her speaking out last Friday in a video message that her condition had actually turned out to be cancerous.
According to The Sun, the two had a private lunch together at Windsor Castle last Thursday, with a source saying of the meeting: “It is highly unusual for just the two of them to sit down together like this.
“The King had already been made aware that the woman he calls ‘my beloved daughter-in-law’ had cancer. The King left his lunch feeling very emotional. Back in 2012, Princess Kate joined her in-laws Prince Charles and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall for a visit to the Dulwich Gallery in south London. The family were seeing the work of The Prince’s Foundation for Children and the Arts, the first time Kate went with Charles to see the work of one of his charities. The visit came less than a year after she married Prince William in April 2011.
Prince William and Princess Kate visited Charles’s residence Dumfries House in Scotland in 2013, where they clearly had a delightful time with the now-monarch. At the time Kate and William were known as the Earl and Countess of Strathearn when north of the border. However, since the death of Queen Elizabeth in 2022 they have inherited the King’s old title Duke and Duchess of Rothesay.
Despite the wet weather in France the now-King was delighted to see his daughter-in-law at an event to mark 100 years since the Battle of the Somme in 2016. It is unusual for the Princess and Charles to be seen on royal outings just the two of them, with Camilla, Prince Harry and the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester also in attendance on this occasion.
The relationship between Kate and the royals has remained firm even throughout the feud with Harry, whom Kate was also once close to.
The two most senior royal couples appeared together as an awesome foursome at the London premiere of the James Bond film No Time to Die in 2021.
Kate’s golden Jenny Packham dress may have stolen many of the headlines, but all four of them looked thrilled to be together. The stunning gown also featured a gold-sequinned cape and a sheer embellished overlay.
