Royal Family LIVE: Three words sum up Harry and Meghan’s ‘embarrassing’ new Netflix blow
The Sussexes have had their current career situation brutally summarised after their award snub. Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s efforts towards a new career for themselves have entered the “Anna Nicole Smith” phase, a royal commentator has claimed in a brutal indictment of their successes.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, in what Daniela Elser claimed for news.com.au was a “sort of reverse Cinderella story”, were dealt an “embarrassing” blow when their Netflix series was not nominated for an Emmy. Ms Elser wrote: “This buh-bow bad news is just the latest in a string of blows, snubs and denouncements that have buffeted the pair of late.
“And so here we are, only three and a half years after they made a break for it, with the couple’s Hollywood careers appearing to have entered the Anna Nicole Smith phase: Concerning. Messy. Fraught.” The commentator further twisted the knife as she pointed out that the series is still Netflix’s second-most popular nonfiction series in its first week, reaching 81.55 million hours watched. The top nonfiction show, by comparison, is the Tinder Swindler, with 166 million hours watched in its first 28 days.
Ms Elser said: “They are streaming spares. Oh fate, you can be a cruel mistress.” The couple were also blasted as “f***ing grifters” b a Spotify executive after their multi-million dollar deal with the company came to an end after two and a half years, during which they produced one show – Meghan’s Archetypes.
However, it is not all bad news for the couple, with their Netflix show receiving a nomination for a Hollywood Critics Association TV Award for Best Streaming Nonfiction Series. It comes as Harry said his mother’s legacy continues to serve as an example of how to “navigate the complexities” of today’s world at a speech for the Diana Award.
