Meghan Markle ‘steps away’ from Prince Harry in major money-making career move
The Duchess of Sussex is reported to be pursuing more solo opportunities in a bid to make her “a power player in Hollywood” in her own right. Meghan Markle looks set to work on a number of solo projects without her husband Prince Harry, reports have suggested. The Duke of Sussex is said to be giving full and unwavering support to his wife as she takes a “step away” from their joint brand to pursue other opportunities.
The career move could see the former Suits actress make millions for her young family, a cash boost that would be very welcome to the couple after their $25million (£20million) deal with Spotify recently collapsed. The unexpected loss of the Spotify deal is said to be inspiring the Duchess of Sussex to step away from her husband to establish her own brand and have a solo career separate from Harry, the Mirror reports.
Meghan recently signed with Hollywood talent agency William Morris Endeavour, which has previously represented household names including Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Adele, and tennis player Serena Williams. Speaking to Bella magazine, a source claims Meghan “feels she’ll have better success if she takes the time to work on projects alone without Harry”. The source also claims the new deal “is about making Meghan a power player in Hollywood” in her own right.
Both Harry and Meghan have been carrying out more solo engagements recently and Harry even attended the King’s Coronation alone. The career shift comes amid speculation Meghan may be open to more commercial opportunities again. Reports claim she could be in with a chance of representing French fashion house Dior and her lifestyle blog The Tig could be making a comeback six years after she shut it down to enter royal life.
Nick Ede, a brand and culture expert, said: “She’s already one of the most talked about and photographed people so maximising her profit and aligning herself with these brands is a very lucrative step.” It’s thought the Duchess could “command millions” of dollars by harnessing the power of her influence on fans and consumers.
The Duke of Sussex meanwhile, is reportedly set to make his grand return to Africa for a new documentary with Netflix. Harry is reported to be venturing into the project without his wife in the next phase of their $98million (£77million) deal with the world-famous streaming service.
