Royal Family LIVE: Kate and Camilla caught in awkward moment during poignant royal day
Members of the Royal Family celebrate every year Garter Day, which honours the ancient order of the Garter led by the British sovereign.
Queen Camilla and Kate, Princess of Wales, shared a slightly awkward moment during a much-loved yearly royal engagement. Resurfaced footage from Garter Day 2019, when the ancient Order of the Garter is celebrated, shows the then Duchess of Cornwall seemingly interrupting a conversation. The princess was caught on camera being so engrossed in a chat with one of the international guests, Queen Maxima of the Netherlands, she almost missed an important moment of the procession leading the Knights and Ladies of the Garter from Windsor Castle to St George’s Chapel.
Luckily, the now Queen was attentively looking at the event unfolding and tapped Queen Maxima on the arm in time to remind the two senior royals to face forwards as the parade passed. The silent exchange also alerted Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh, to take her position next to Spain’s Queen Letizia. There were clearly no hard feelings between the royals, as seconds later Camilla was spotted amiably chatting with Maxima and Kate.
This comes days before the Royal Family will attend the first Garter Day without Queen Elizabeth II at the helm of the monarchy or the Order.
The next day celebrating the ancient order is June 19. As happened also last year, Camilla will take part in the procession, as she was appointed by the late monarch a Lady of the Garter order in late 2021.
