Princess Kate reveals how she told George, Charlotte and Louis about cancer diagnosis
The Princess of Wales spoke about how she told her children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis of her shock cancer diagnosis ‘in a way that is appropriate’ for them. The Princess of Wales broke the nation’s heart tonight as she bravely revealed in a new video she has been diagnosed with a type of cancer. In a heart-wrenching video, Princess Kate – visibly emotional – spoke about how she initially underwent surgery in January and was told her condition was non-cancerous. But the royal said that later tests revealed a cancer had been found.
Kate bravely spoke about how it has taken time to process the news but she also opened up about how she and her husband, Prince William, informed all three of their children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis, in a way that is “appropriate for them”. She said in the video: “It has been an incredibly tough couple of months for our entire family, but I’ve had a fantastic medical team who have taken great care of me, for which I am so grateful. “William and I have been doing everything we can to process and manage this privately for the sake of our young family. As you can imagine, this has taken time. It has taken me time to recover from major surgery in order to start my treatment.
“But, most importantly, it has taken us time to explain everything to George, Charlotte and Louis in a way that is appropriate for them, and to reassure them that I am going to be ok.” The future queen’s voice can be heard cracking up as she explained her shocking ordeal. Kate can be seen wringing her hands as she thanked the nation for “all the wonderful messages of support” and their “understanding. She praised her husband William and said that having him by her side “is a great source of comfort and reassurance too.”
She added: “We hope that you will understand that, as a family, we now need some time, space and privacy while I complete my treatment. “My work has always brought me a deep sense of joy and I look forward to being back when I am able, but for now I must focus on making a full recovery. It has been a dramatic past few weeks for the royal with the public’s worry about her whereabouts and wellbeing skyrocketing.
Kate underwent abdominal surgery on January 16 at the London Clinic, according to Kensington Palace, where she stayed for nearly two weeks, before continuing her recovery back home in Windsor.
