Key thing Prince William and King Charles want ‘made clear’ about Harry and Meghan’s trip

There’s one thing Prince William and King Charles want people to know about Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s recent trip to Nigeria, according to a royal expert. The couple’s trip has been described as a “mini royal tour”, but former BBC royal correspondent Jennie Bond claimed this would not have pleased the two senior members of the Firm. Instead, she said they would want the public to recognise it as a different sort of visit, not tied to any royal duties – which Prince Harry and Meghan stepped down from in 2020.
Bond told OK!: “The King and Prince William are firmly of the belief that you are either in or out of the working royals. This seems to be a rather strange halfway house. “I think both the King and the Prince, and indeed the Government, will want it to be made clear that Harry is not representing either the Royal Family or Britain on this trip.” While the Sussexes were in Nigeria, Prince William visited Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly, meeting hospital staff and playing beach volleyball with young lifeguards.
Bond said this showed just how “relaxed” he is feeling, in and important “step in the right direction” following Princess Kate’s cancer diagnosis. She said: “It’s great news that William feels relaxed enough to stay away for a night. I’ve no doubt that Catherine’s parents will be staying with her, but even so it must be a step in the right direction. “Hopefully Catherine is feeling stronger every day and, with the sun now shining, she’ll be able to enjoy the great outdoors which, for her, has always been restorative.”
The couple’s trip to Nigeria came immediately after Prince Harry’s solo visit to the UK for an Invictus Games 10th anniversary ceremony at St. Paul’s Cathedral. He did not meet with any members of the Royal Family during the fleeting visit, leaving many to speculate about the rift that remains between them and whether it can be fixed. Bond gave the sobering message that all hope is lost in terms of Prince William and Prince Harry reconnecting, adding that it may never happen.
She said: “I think we have to give up hope that the rift between the brothers will be healed at any time in the near future, or indeed ever.
“William’s head and heart must be bursting with all that he has on his plate right now: his wife’s cancer treatment, his father’s illness, his children growing up fast, the pressure for him to take on more royal duties, the prospect of becoming King earlier than he might ever have wanted.”
