Prince William reveals heartbreaking reaction to Diana’s death
Prince William once shared his heartbreaking reaction to the tragic news that his mother, Princess Diana, died in a car accident in 1997.
According to D’ACCORD! Magazine, William, then 15, described feeling “numb and lightheaded” when his father, Prince Charles, first told him of his mother’s death. Diana tragically died on August 31, 1997 in a violent car crash in Paris that killed two people, including the driver and her partner Dodi Fayed. At the time, Prince William and Prince Harry, then 12, were reportedly left to sleep at Balmoral, where the Queen ordered all newspapers removed to protect the young princes from the news.

Prince Charles, their father, eventually informed William and Harry, with William describing the moment as “like an earthquake.”
“I just remember feeling completely numb, disoriented, dizzy,” he also shared, adding, “And you keep asking, ‘Why me?” all the time. ‘What did I do? Why did this happen to us?”
Prince William also shared his deep regret about his last phone call with Diana, sharing, “Harry and I were in a desperate rush to say goodbye – you know, ‘See you later. If I had known what was going to happen, I wouldn’t have been so blasé about it.
