Princess Kate releases new video as she speaks out on her health journey

The Princess of Wales reflected on her personal journey of healing after her recent cancer battle in a new video shared by Kensington Palace. She speaks of “fears washing away” and “coming to peace with our tears” in the final installment of her Mother Nature series, Winter, which the princess chose to be released to mark her 44th birthday today.

It’s been a deeply personal project for Catherine as she used the series to reflect on how nature has helped her to heal, after she was diagnosed with cancer at the start of 2024 and underwent six months of chemotherapy. Delivering the voiceover to the two-minute film, the Princess says: “Even in the coldest, darkest season, winter has a way of bringing us stillness, patience and quiet consideration.

“Where the stream slows just enough for us to see our own reflection. To discover the deepest parts of ourselves. Alongside the whispers in the pulse of every living thing.

“I find myself reflecting on how deeply grateful I am. For the rivers within us flow with ease, fears washed away, cleanse and purify. Come to peace with our tears and discover what it means to be alive.

“To be at one with nature; a quiet teacher and a soft voice that guides. In memory. Helping us to heal.”

In the film, Catherine is seen on an early morning walk in Berkshire, where she lives with her husband and three children. Other elements feature the beautiful scenery in Cumbria, Gloucestershire, London, East Sussex and the Cotswolds.

An aide described yesterday’s release as “the culmination of a deeply personal creative project for The Princess, spotlighting humanity’s longstanding connection to nature, as well as nature’s capacity to inspire us and help us to heal and grow in mind, body and spirit.”

As with the rest of the four-part series, the new video is rooted in the need to reconnect humanity – something Catherine explored in her recent essay with Professor Waldinger when she warned that too much screen time damages family life.

She believes that due to the challenges of our increasingly digital world, the importance of interconnectedness – the connection we have with ourselves, each other and nature – takes even more significance.

Catherine penned a personal caption to accompany the video, which read: “The Mother Nature series has been a deeply personal, creative reflection on how nature has helped me heal. But it is also a story about the power of nature and creativity in collective healing.

“There is so much we can learn from mother nature, as we look to build a happier, healthier world. C.”

The princess launched her Mother Nature series with Spring at the start of last year’s Mental Health Awareness Week. This film marks the end of the series, but Catherine is expected to continue to put nature at the heart of her work going forward.

It is understood that moving forward, the Princess is “excited to explore” what more can be done to harness the power of nature and creativity for human connection, healing and wellbeing for individuals, families, communities and society.

Her birthday comes as she marks a year of being in remission, following her cancer diagnosis in early 2024.

She underwent preventative chemotherapy for six months and took a break from the public eye while she focused on her recovery.

Last January, she returned to the London hospital where she received her cancer treatment and announced that day that she was now in remission.
