Aside from her Oscar-worthy performances, we’re utterly obsessed with Mare of Easttown star Kate Winslet for her ability to keep it real when it comes to all things aesthetic. Not only did the actress share, in an interview with the New York Times, that she refused to allow director Craig Zobel to edit out ‘a bulgy bit of belly’ in a sex scene featuring her and Guy Pearce in the crime drama, it has also been revealed that the actress twice rejected designs for the show’s promotional posters because her image was ‘too retouched’.’
It also turns out that the 45-year-old takes the same no-nonsense approach to her skincare routine. Winslet admits she doesn’t have time for 10 step regime. ‘My routine is pretty fast because it just has to be,’ she previously told Vogue, adding that she always has wet hair because there’s ‘hardly ever time to dry it.’ Needless to say, though, the star has the sort of glow we all want to capture. Here’s how Winslet looks after her skin, day in, day out. Spoiler, it’s so easy you’ll be incorporating her top tips in no time at all.
1. She always removes her make-up
We know this one is vital but how many of us are lax with make-up removal after a night out or incredibly knackering day? Well, now’s the time to take a leaf out of Winslet’s book, who always takes her make-up off, ‘no matter how tired I am.’ She uses Tracie Martyn’s Amla Purifying Cleanser and a flat facial sponge to make sure her face is ‘truly clean.’
2. Her must-have products are…
The actress was previously a Lancôme ambassador, so it’s no surprise she still uses her old favorite Lancôme Tonique Confort to nourish her dry skin. ‘Then I slather up with Advanced Genifique Sensitive,’ she said, which she explains is a ‘two-for-the-price-of-one product. It combines two serum concentrates with a vitamin E boost, all in one bottle. Shake, slather, done,’ she added. ‘It’s really hydrating and fresh and fast to use. All of this takes me about three minutes. Four if you include brushing teeth.’
3. She’s big into beauty from the outside in
Kate’s approach to beauty is very much 360, especially if she has an event coming up. Speaking to Vogue a few years ago, she said: ‘so if I know I have to look red-carpet-ready for something, I do try and look after myself in the few days running up to that moment. Nothing fancy or expensive, but I’m 42 now, so I can’t get away with murder anymore!’
‘So my top tip would be water. Water, water, water. Keep the body hydrated and the skin will follow suit. And I try and stay away from salt and alcohol before an important occasion and throw a few green smoothies together in a Nutribullet.’ ‘Whilst my life would be too dull without salt and the odd glass of wine, we all know that cutting them out makes for a healthier complexion. At least it does in my case,’ she adds.
4. She’s a fan of facials
Facials might seem like spenny treats, but regular treatments help to keep skin in tip-top condition. This is because they can help to clear clogged pores, quench dry skin and remove a layer of dead cells, that rob skin of its glow. Some, also involve some massage which aids in blood circulation and lymphatic drainage to decrease puffiness. It’s rumored that when it comes to prepping for a big night, Kate relies on facialist Tracie Martyn’s signature Red Carpet Facial. A collagen-boosting treatment, it quickly lifts and tones the cheekbones, jawline, and eye area.
5. She gets plenty of beauty sleep
Sleep is vital because this is when the skin repairs itself, and while there are hundreds of impressive make-up and skincare products, nothing can quite replace the benefits of a full 8-hour snooze fest.
Kate agrees: ‘sleep and health play a big part in looking fresh. If I’m over-tired or stressed, no amount of make-up and hair can disguise the impact of that on one’s face.’ There’s never been a better excuse for a lie-in.
