If the Duke of Sussex does accept an invitation, it will be the first time he has been in the same place as his brother since the King’s and Queen’s Coronation last May. Invitations have now been dispatched for the nuptials of Hugh Grosvenor and Olivia Henson, with the 33-year-old said to be staying neutral in the royal rift, remaining on good terms with both William and Harry. The Duke of Westminster is godfather to Prince George, suggesting the whole Wales family could be at the ceremony in Chester Cathedral.

Writing in the Daily Mail, Ephraim Hardcastle claimed Harry could appear via video link, just as he did at the Diana Legacy Awards earlier this month. William gave a moving speech in person at the awards ceremony, held at the Science Museum in London on March 14, in which he expressed his feelings towards his late mother. He said: “She taught me that everyone has the potential to give something back; that everyone in need deserves a supporting hand in life.”

In contrast Harry appeared later in a video message, with body language analyst Darren Stanton explaining that the delivery of his speech was more “light-hearted”. He went on to say: “It’s clear that Harry has the same degree of passion for the project, but I didn’t sense any micro expressions of sadness from him during the appearance. “As it was only a call, that could have made a difference as he wasn’t there and able to soak in the emotion.”

Harry addressed those in attendance: “So much of the future depends on you guys. Some of the work you do may feel as though you are small, some of it is big but the impact again that you are having on hundreds of thousands, millions of people.” Even if they both attend the wedding, it seems unlikely the feud between the brothers will be patched up anytime soon, particularly as it has its roots in their childhood.

Family psychotherapist Helen Villiers told Express.co.uk: “Where one child is valued more highly than another in his family system, regardless of whether or not the parents are trying to treat them equally, there will inevitably be rivalry and it could be that they are the heir to the throne and it could be that one is more academically intelligent or gifted or something than the other.

“And as a result, they are both internally in the family system valued more highly, but also externally valued more highly. If we look at William and Harry, growing up as children, William was heir to the throne, the firstborn boy and therefore, he naturally has had much more media attention priority.” Harry was last in the UK briefly in February to see his father King Charles after learning he had been diagnosed with cancer, however he made no time during his trip to see William.
